What we do, in plain English.
Every job below comes with a written quote before we start. If yours isn't on the list, call anyway. The list is what we do most, not everything we do.
EV charger installs
Level 2 chargers, hardwired or on a 14-50 outlet. Load calculation first, so the panel can actually carry it, then the permit, the install and the rebate form.
Rewiring older homes
Knob-and-tube, cloth-wrapped and aluminum branch circuits replaced room by room. Small, patchable holes, and we bring the plasterer if you don't have one.
Lighting and fans
Recessed cans, pendants, under-cabinet strips and dimmers that don't buzz. Ceiling fans hung on boxes rated to hold them, which most aren't.
Generators
Standby units with an automatic transfer switch, or a manual interlock for a portable you already own. Sized to what you actually want running, not the whole house by default.
Troubleshooting
Dead outlets, a breaker that trips every Sunday, a smell you can't place. We find the cause before we sell you a fix, and the flat diagnostic fee comes off the repair.

Level 2 charger, installed

Includes the load calculation, a dedicated 50-amp circuit up to 25 feet from the panel, the permit and the inspection. Bring your own charger or let us recommend one; we install every major brand.
We handle the permit and the rebate paperwork.Most utilities around here pay $250 to $700 back on a Level 2 install. We fill in the form, attach the photos and the invoice, and the check comes to you.
- Hardwired for 48 amps, or a 14-50 outlet for a plug-in unit. Your call.
- Panel too full? We quote the upgrade on the same visit, or a load-management device that avoids it.
- Detached garages and driveway posts, trenching included.
- Two-car households: we run the second circuit now so the next charger is a twenty-minute job.

You will never learn the price of an Ampere job from the invoice. You learn it from the quote, before anyone opens the van.

Panels, chargers, generators, rewiring: we come out, look at the panel, measure the run and write it up on the spot. No charge, no obligation, and no estimate fee that quietly appears if you decide not to book.

A flat diagnostic fee, credited to the repair.
For troubleshooting calls. The fee covers the first hour of finding the fault, which is usually enough. Have us fix it and the $129 comes off the bill. Decide not to, and that is all you pay.

1page, signed
A quote before work, in writing.
One page, one number, your signature, before a tool comes off the van. If we open a wall and find something the quote didn't cover, we stop, show you, and re-quote. You decide what happens next, not us.
When to call, honestly
Most electrical problems can wait a week. A few can't.
We would rather you knew the difference than called us worried. This is how we triage it in our own houses.
Today, please
- An outlet, switch or cord that feels warm, or a plate that has turned brown.
- A burning smell with nothing obviously burning.
- A breaker that trips again the moment you reset it.
- Buzzing, sizzling or scorch marks at the panel.
- Water reaching an outlet, a light or the panel.
This week is fine
- Lights that dip when the dryer, AC or microwave kicks on.
- A breaker that trips about once a week and resets clean.
- A dead outlet that isn't warm and hasn't burned anything.
- Two-prong outlets you'd like grounded, or a room with one outlet.
- A ceiling fan that wobbles, or a switch that does nothing.
If something is smoking or sparking right now, switch off the main breaker, get out, and call the fire department first. Then call us at (555) 555-0140. We keep a line open after hours for exactly this.
A flicker is almost never a reason for a new panel. If someone quotes you one to fix it, get a second opinion. We are happy to be it.
The crew

Ampere is Dana Okafor's shop. She started it in 2011 with one van and a habit of explaining what she was doing while she did it. The habit is now company policy: you will know what we found, what we are doing about it and what it costs, before, during and after.
Everyone on the crew holds a state journeyman or master license, passes a background check before their first day, and rides in a van stocked with the forty most common breakers in the county. Drop cloths under every hole. A vacuum before we leave. A second trip is rare, and never billed.
